Both Lexus and Audi are synonymous with power, luxury and performance. These two automakers offer some of the best of the best, vehicles designed not only to please the senses, but to ensure that you have the handling and acceleration needed to deal with any situation on the road. Of course, they’re not created equal, and you’ll need to know which wins out in a comparison if you’re interested in the 2016 Lexus CT200h and the 2015 Audi A3 1.8T Premium.
It’s difficult to compare the exterior of the two vehicles simply because they don’t really fall into the same category. Sure, they’re both entry level luxury cars, but that’s where the similarities stop. The 2016 Lexus CT200h is a four-door hatchback, while the 2015 Audi A3 1.8T Premium is a four-door sedan (the hatchback version was eliminated in 2014). However, the Lexus does manage to offer a slightly sleeker look with a more aggressive stance than the Audi.
Comparing the interior of the two cars is likewise difficult, mostly because there’s a great deal of difference. The Lexus CT200h is outfitted with leather seats, while the Audi only offers cloth unless you opt for a higher-end trim level (it does offer leather trim, though). The Lexus also offers a slightly better layout and design for the gauges and controls, putting everything you need front and center. The Audi requires a little more searching to find what you need.
The Audi also suffers from several other problems, including the fact that the back seat is more than a little cramped. The trunk is also very small for the segment. The 200h offers more space in the back, and the hatch provides ample storage room.
Under the Hood
Pop the hood on the 2016 Lexus CT200h and you’ll find a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor (it’s a hybrid). It produces just over 130 horsepower and manages to deliver some pretty significant fuel mileage numbers (to the tune of 43 in the city and 40 on the highway). The Audi is a conventional, gas-powered car, and uses a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 170 hp. However, it only offers 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, making the Lexus the clear winner here despite having less power from the engine.
Both the 2016 Lexus CT200h and the 2015 Audi A3 1.8T Premium offer nimble handling on the road, allowing you to take turns with confidence. Of course, the Lexus manages to get you there while using less fuel, and you’ll find that the shifts between gasoline and electric power are almost completely unnoticeable.
If you’re in the market for an entry-level luxury car, then the 2016 Lexus CT200h definitely edges out the Audi. It combines good performance with outstanding fuel economy and offers a truly luxurious cabin. We invite you to visit us at Lexus of Nashville to test drive a new Lexus model today.
