If you’re in the market for a luxury sedan in Nashville, there are quite a few different choices for you. However, two of the top options are the 2016 Lexus IS 200t and the 2016 BMW 3 Series 328i. While both are luxury sedans, they are substantially different and you’ll need to know which one fits your needs best before you buy.
Lean, aggressive and sporty are all words that apply equally to the 2016 Lexus IS 200t. The large grille and sweeping curves lend this sedan an undeniable sports-car flair. The 2016 BMW 3 Series 328i is equally sporty, although it lacks the large grille. Instead, it has a small, split grille more reminiscent of luxury cars from the 2000s. The body is also not as curved, and it doesn’t offer the same aggressive stance as found with the 200t.
Slip inside the 2016 Lexus IS 200t and you’ll be surrounded in sumptuous luxury. Leather seats and sporty trim dominate. The cabin is well laid out as well, feeling more like a cockpit than the inside of a sedan. All the controls are easily reached from the driver’s position and all the gauges are very visible. For the BWM, things are a little different. Sure, it offers leather seating, but the controls are not as well laid out, and the gauges can be somewhat hard to see, particularly if the steering wheel is raised higher. The small shifter is a nod to performance, but many drivers find it difficult to use.
Under the Hood
You’ll find that the 2016 Lexus IS 200t is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter, 4-cylidner engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s capable of producing 241 hp, with fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. In comparison, the BMW offers a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine (turbocharged) mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It produces 240 hp. Fuel economy for the BMW is 22 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.
Drivers find that the 2016 Lexus IS 200t is more than capable of handling pretty much anything the road might throw at it. Power is more than ample, and the steering is very responsive. It also manages to shroud you in quiet thanks to the advanced soundproofing materials used in the cabin construction. Finally, most drivers note that the ride quality is nothing short of incredible.
The 2016 BMW 3 Series 328i definitely delivers a smooth, comfortable ride, as well. Engine performance is good, although not as strong as with the Lexus. Handling is also decent, although the Lexus manages to edge it out here, too. Drivers also note that the automatic start/stop feature for the engine is more of a hindrance than a help, and disabling this feature actually hurts the car’s fuel economy pretty significantly.
If you’re in the market for a luxury sedan, then the 2016 Lexus 200t definitely stands out from the crowd. We invite you to visit us as Lexus of Nashville to get behind the wheel.
